Annual Review and Create Your Dream Job

Annual Review
Employee performance review is an essential practice in an organization that enables the manager to give employees feedback and also give a worker the opportunity to respond to the manager. Reviews are designed to be important elements of performance and improvement process where the employer and employee examine the past challenges, acknowledge accomplishments and set a plan to help in future improvements. This paper examines the approach which may be used to address employee performance issues.
For the first nine months, Jim has been an excellent employee. However, recently, he began getting late for the job and this has started causing production-related problems. To ensure a successful discussion, I would first discuss with Jim the success he recorded for the first nine months and point out how it benefited the company. Making sure that the employee understands that his contributions are recognized by the company may make him feel valued.
Besides, I would ask Jim whether he is conformable with how things are at the moment. This would make it possible for me to understand and comprehend how he feels about his current performance (Knight, 2011). After getting his response, I would then explain what the employee is doing now and how it has affected the company, that is, getting to work very late which has hampered the production line. I would inquire about the reasons for the current trend, and if it is caused by family issues then I would suggest that he takes some time off to take care of the family affairs.
I would also give praises such as telling him that he is an excellent innovator and that the company recognizes his hard work (Knight, 2011). Stipulating that he is competent at his job may help in motivating him to work much better. I would, however, make it clear that the firm is also concerned about his current situation and that he should improve to maintain his position in the company. I would lastly point that the human resource department is creating a performance appraisal program which is aimed at rewarding exceptional employees and for him to benefit from this program he should ensure that he registers excellent performance. This would be a better way of influencing him to put the same effort as he did during the first nine months of the year.
