Business Ethics Problem
In the Module 1 SLP, you will be given requirements for structuring the papers you will write throughout your degree program. In this module, we will discuss the required format and and writing requirements of all future papers (Case and SLP).
Required Reading
To begin, please review pages 1-11 of the Trident University International Student Guide to Writing a High-Quality Academic Paper. Then read page 16 of the Student Guide to Writing a High-Quality Academic Paper, entitled “Basic Structure: 4. Conclusion.” Please note: For Module 1, you should disregard pages 12-15, as we will be covering end referencing and in-text citation requirements in Module 2.
In addition to reviewing the Student Guide to Writing a High-Quality Academic Paper, I would like you to review Dr. Drummond McNaughton's excellent guide for writing high-quality papers: Dr. Drumm's Writing Tips.
Please thoroughly review the Purdue Owl guidelines for writing papers. This websites provides a high-quality overview relating to such issues as writing mechanics and usage of grammar:

Assignment
For the Module 1 SLP, please write a 2- to 3-page paper in which you address the following:
Drawing upon deontological ethics, discuss a business ethics problem with which you have had personal experience.
Keys to the Assignment
- Describe an ethical problem you have confronted in a business situation;
- Describe the deontological implications of the ethical problem you have described; and
- Describe how Kant's Categorical Imperative applies to your chosen business problem.
SLP Assignment Expectations
Your paper will be evaluated using the following five (5) criteria:
- Assignment-Driven Criteria (Precision and Breadth): Does the paper fully address all Keys to the Assignment? Are the concepts behind the Keys to the Assignment addressed accurately and precisely using sound logic? Does the paper meet minimum length requirements?
- Critical Thinking (Critical Thinking and Depth): Does the paper demonstrate graduate-level analysis, in which information derived from multiple sources, expert opinions, and assumptions has been critically evaluated and synthesized in the formulation of a logical set of conclusions? Does the paper address the topic with sufficient depth of discussion and analysis?
- Business Writing (Clarity and Organization): Is the paper well written (clear, developed logically, and well organized)? Are the grammar, spelling, and vocabulary appropriate for graduate-level work? Are section headings included in all papers? Are paraphrasing and synthesis of concepts the primary means of responding to the Keys to the Assignment, or is justification/support instead conveyed through excessive use of direct quotations?
- Effective Use of Information (Information Literacy and References): Does the paper demonstrate that the student has read, understood and can apply the background materials for the module? If required, has the student demonstrated effective research, as evidenced by student’s use of relevant and quality (library?) sources? Do additional sources used in paper provide strong support for conclusions drawn, and do they help in shaping the overall paper?
- Citing Sources: Does the student demonstrate understanding of APA Style of referencing, by inclusion of proper end references and in-text citations (for paraphrased text and direct quotations) as appropriate? Have all sources (e.g., references used from the Background page, the assignment readings, and outside research) been included, and are these properly cited? Have all end references been included within the body of the paper as in-text citations?

Ethical business practices are important for enhancing a conducive business environment by fostering good decision-making, compliance to business regulations and contributing to the general business success (Kant & Abbott, 2008). In this paper, I will describe an ethical problem I have confronted in my business environment, pinpointing its deontological implication and how Kant’s categorical imperative applies to my chosen business problem.
Human resources department is one place in an organization where many ethical issues emerge in relation to the recruitment, management, and dismissal of employees (Cline, 2014). In one instance, I was selected to be among the recruitment personnel, responsible of conducting a job interview for an accountant position. Normally, job recruitment processes require that the recruiters be upfront with those applying for the position (Kant & Abbott, 2008). Job advertisement always outlines the job description and qualification, which should be met by any job candidate in order to secure the job. During the interview process, I realize that one of the final shortlisted candidates had not fully met the job requirements with his low academic qualifications. After ...
