1.0 Introduction
Apurla Community Services is struggling to work efficiently due to its various departments operating independently, thus not communicating with each other. As a result, there is a need to prepare a communication report that analyses the situation and draws recommendations on how the company can address the issue. The communications report was requested for by the Operations Manager, and it analyses the process of effective communication flow and how communication flows in work teams within the organization. The analysis findings are used to draw recommendations on how improved communication flow can be achieved to improve operational outcomes within the organization.
2.0 Analysis of Communication Flow
2.1 Communication Channels
Communication flows through various channels in an organization; informal, which is planned and structured, and informal, in which the grapevine develops as individuals continue interacting within the organization. According to Eunson (2016, p. 594), executives and personal assistants play a crucial role in organizational communication, and around 5 in every 6 messages are transmitted by the grapevine. The method is often but the message delivered is incomplete, meaning a rumor considered credible can shape the perception towards other events.
2.2 Communication Direction
Communication also flows in different directions; upward, horizontal or lateral, and downward communication. Upward involves communication from the employees to the top management in which workers communicate their ideas or suggestions, and feelings or attitudes to the management.
