Lord et al. (2020, p.51) explain leadership theory in terms of information processing using two frameworks: implicit leadership theories (ILTs) and implicit followership theories (IFTs). Notably, ILTs provide insight into how people create cognitive frameworks for leadership categories or schemes that form people's perceptions of leaders and their behavior.
