The freestyle 50m is one of the most exciting races in Olympic swimming. It is an appropriate example of how pressure and buoyancy act upon an athlete moving through water (Burkett, 2018). This sprint-style race gives an insight into the power and technique a swimmer has while moving in water at high speed. From this explosive start to the final touch, every movement is affected by these basic forces. Understanding their impact is important to athletes striving toward Olympic glory.
The race starts with the crucial dive at the start, for which the swimmer has to overcome underwater pressure to enter the pool effectively. As the swimmer leaps from the starting point, aiming to take a steep angle, they may feel extreme pressure (Scurati et al., 2019).
