Compare and Contrast: Rational Model versus Collaborative Rationality
Word limit: 350-600 words per question.
You do not need to include a bibliography. However, all sources should be cited correctly, with a page number for direct
quotes. Here are examples of the type of in-text citation you should include:
• (Levy 2017) → citing an idea from the textbook
• (Class lecture, 9/10/20) → after citing something that I said in class but was not
mentioned anywhere else

strengths and weaknesses each one. Which is more likely to address questions of social and
environmental justice, and why? In your answer, be sure to include a brief discussion of the role of
constructivist approaches in changing power dynamics in the planning process.

In your answer, be sure to include a brief discussion of the role of constructivist approaches in changing power dynamics in the planning process.
The rational model is a step by step procedure that seeks to find the best solution to a problem. This particular model seeks to streamline the planning process by making it “rational and systematic as possible” (Levy, 433). The steps are sequential, but often, upon review and analysis, it is possible to go back to a previous step to ensure optimum results are attained. Some of the strengths of the rational model include the possibility of revisiting previous steps. There can never be an optimum or the best solution to a problem. However, the rational model offers the opportunity to rethink certain decisions and to opt for better ones. Secondly, the sequential steps are advantageous as they ensure order during the planning process. However, the rational model has a few weaknesses that critics believe reduce its credibility. One weakness is that it is unrealistic, which means it makes a perfect case for an ideal situation but not reality. Also, the planning process may take a lot of time because of rethinking so...
