The human brain is a powerful body organ that can determine and process various senses. Auditory and visual structures deal with essential stimuli, such as sound and light waves, which are converted to neural signals. Furthermore, they are passed to other designed structures that pave the way for perception. Apart from the similarities of auditory and visual structures, they are also associated with differences. In terms of the auditory system, the sound waves penetrate the ear canal to the eardrums, where they act as a source of vibration. On top of that, the movement of the vibrations occurs with the help of ossicles and tiny bones found at the center of the ear (Garrett & Hough, 2021). The movement continues to the inner ear to a structure called the cochlea. In this structure, the waves are converted into a pressure-like form that continues to move in the basilar membrane(Garrett & Hough, 2021). Furthermore, various sound waves through the basilar membrane tremble multiple sections of the membrane, and the cells attached to the hair simultaneously move (Garrett & Hough, 2021). At this point, the pressure is converted into electrical signals in a process known as mechanotransduction. Then, the electrical signals move to auditory nerve fibers that help establish auditory nerves, which pass information to the brain cells.
On the other hand, the visual system majors with the transmission of light to the pupil with the help of the cornea. In addition, the lens found in the pupil also transmits the light to the back of the eye to a structure called the retina, where the light is not reflected anywhere (Garrett & Hough, 2021; Kandel et al., 2013).
