One way to evaluate the relationships between fashion and mathematics is to consider how geometry is used in fashion. Additionally, fashion-like architecture utilizes proportions, and when considering the human body, a person’s full figure, face, and size are considered in designing. For the designers, getting the best possible appearance is necessary where measurements and proportions, which are part of the geometry, influence the final outlook. The tape measure is an essential part of making clothes since it is necessary to get the right measurements. Even in the past, mathematical tools have been used for measurement and symmetries. There is the integration of geometry in math with fashion design, including shape measurements of human body types and math concepts without forgetting the choice of fabric.
The geometric approach in designing considers the plane measurements and application of geometry. In the study of geometry, there is a focus on responsible for studying shapes, points, angles, planes, and lines. As such, the shape of the attires reflects measurements and the desired outcomes. To achieve perfect symmetry and the desired aesthetic patterns, fashion designers tend to use mathematics as lines and shapes to determine where there are cuts. Sometimes designers choose geometric forms and shapes as they reflect harmony and beauty, such as when they focus on proportions in their designs (Kazlacheva & Ilieva, 2016). There are different proportions and shapes in the human body, and considering geometry in fashion design is helpful to make unique and fitting designs.
Design fundamentals are based on geometry, and even some traditional prints integrate elements of geometry to create attractive designs. Go emetic print fabrics are more common than ever before at a time when machines and computers are integrated into the fashion processes. However, even for the hand women prints, geometry influences the design output, but it is easier to elaborate designs on some fabrics more than others. Designers use mathematical concepts to create new patterns, and this requires standard measurements and ordered steps in making patterns. Even when making modifications in fabrics and attires, one requires measurements to fit the expected changes. Geometric figures such as the triangle, squares, and rectangle are the most common, but it is the way they are arranged and combined to make patterns that shows creativity in designs.
The human body types are one area to apply mathematics fashion design since clothes are best fit for certain body types. The human figure is ...
