Difference between orchestra and wind band
Orchestra is a collection of various musicians that usually, in an organized manner, play stringed instruments. These stringed instruments include the violin, cello, and double bass among others which are usually found in the violin family. Whereas wind band uses instruments that produce sound by making air to vibrate inside a musical instrument. These instruments could be; trumpets, flutes, clarinets, tubers among others. Primarily, tone color enables a listener to point out a sound as being generated by a particular instrument. Stringed instruments used produce high pitched tones hence can be described as ‘bright, mellow or warm’, depending on individual’s sentiments. Wind instruments tend to produce tone colors that can be described as dull, hollow or dry, which often create a melancholic atmosphere. The change between the strains is well structured to infiltrate the audience’s emotions.
Star and stripes forever
‘Star and Stripes Forever’, being performed majorly by a wind instruments, unlike most wind band that gives a melancholic aura, the performance and rendition commands attention and possess the energy of passionate performers. There is excellent coordination and an outstanding transcription of the instruments’ sounds in a unified manner that the melody is able to be formed.
