A few days ago, I got a chance to see Hamlet which was presented by JP Stevens Theatre Company. The play consisted of two hours and thirty-seven minutes. Before watching this play, I had no idea that the Tragedy of Hamlet (also known as Hamlet) was originally written by William Shakespeare. This is because I have less interest in stage shows or concerts, and I had never been to any of them during my college days.
This was the very first time when I watched a live play, and the overall impression was wonderful. What I loved the most about this play is that it has a powerful story. Though themes like madness, religion, mortality, revenge, sex, art and culture, lies, and family are evident throughout the play, my favorite theme is Family. I strongly believe that blood is thicker than water and that there is nothing more beautiful in this world than having parents, siblings and other family members to love with and to spend time with.
I also observed that the play was dwelling on issues of revenge and incent; both of them were taking the familial bond too far. We should never have sex with our families--everybody can get behind that--but maybe, Hamlet was trying to convey the message that we should not murder for them either. What is left behind? Is it a normal family? No, it is not. This is a Shakespearean tragedy; keep looking.
