Over the years, America has been one of the leading countries with eye-catching musical performances. This is because America has one of the outstanding singers, the best music, and is rich in history. In addition to being the source of one of the best performances, it has been at the forefront of controversy since the performances attract a huge crowd; a small mistake can call a huge uproar which will be covered by the media and be noticed in the whole country. Even though many performances have happened, one outstanding is Bob Dylan, Newport Folk Festival, 1965, which happened on July 25, 1965 (Cunningham, 2020). This performance shows confidence and bravery despite happening in the 20th century
Even though most audiences expected this performance to go on normally, they were surprised by Dylan's move. On July 25, 1965, Dylan stepped on stage to perform three songs. “Love Minus Zero/ No Limit.”, "If You Gotta Go, Go Now," and “All I Really Want to Do” at the Newport workshop. During this time, Dylan decided to take a different route to challenge the festival by performing with the help of a fully amplified band the next evening. The main reason that influenced his performance is that he was irritated by the remarks that Alan Lomax, a festival organizer, had made regarding Paul Butterfield Blues when introducing them to the fans. His disappointment with these sentiments prompted him to play electric abruptly, and he started to rehearse that night to represent his dissatisfaction with Lomax's sentiments.
However, this approach did not sit well with the general public. For instance, most people complained that the band was so loud that it could snap an individual's ears, making them feel like they were bleeding. Most of the audience attending this festival has many hearing allegiances (Kirby, 2015). These issues were too much such that what happened has not yet been established. Moreover, there was a commotion as the journalists and fans who did not like Dylan's new sound were outraged. There were instances where the crowd booed them loudly, prompting folk icon Pete Seeger to try to stop the show (Lewis, 2012). However, his attempts were not welcomed as Dylan and his band only retreated after they had performed the three songs and later came to play an acoustic set. Dylan's provocative moves have been highlighted as one of the outstanding moments since it is highlighted as the time when rock music eclipsed folk as the ‘60s generation sound.
