Everyone is responsible for reading the weekly assigned articles or chapters. After reading, post a one-two paragraph response online on Canvas on the discussion board for that week. The thesis statement of Lauren Peters’ article is When Brands Use Plus-Size Models and Don’t Make Plus-Size Clothe. The secondary theses are the cultural stigmatization of women with stout body sizes and lies that fashion brands use to attract customers to their fashion lines (Downing, 2018). To support his claim of the existence of brands that falsely use plus-size models and fail to avail the same in their stores, the author employs the example of Madewell’s fashion line that used the image of Duval to advertise its new clothes that fat women can use. I agree with the author’s arguments that women with fat bodies have been stigmatized as most adverts portray slim and slender women, thereby showing an ideally beautiful woman as slender and white (Downings, 2019). The article is informative as one can learn that fat women wear an untapped market. Fashion designers should incorporate stoutwear as an integral part of their fashion lines as they are worth $21 billion.
