Whole Child Approach
A whole-child approach is a holistic approach to learning wherein children's general development is acknowledged and fostered in terms of cognitive, socio-emotional, motor and moral development. This approach differs from the conventional wisdom of child development, which focuses on academic achievements alone. Thus, the critical idea of the whole-child approach is to stimulate a child's multiple development spheres to build well-rounded personalities ready to succeed in different spheres of life and cope with the conditions and demands of the contemporary world.
The whole child concept is an idea that addresses the learning environment conditions and the young ones. According to Vilchez et al. (2021), it includes the prevention of physical and emotional abuse, fostering of caring interactions, ensuring the provision of appropriate and relevant education for the support of learning development, and promotion of student’s social-emotional and academic development. As the authors argue, this is the only way children can be prepared to face the world's challenges today and have an equal chance to education.
