(1) As you move more deeply into the process of developing your research project, you need to keep in the forefront of your mind the all-important observation that writing a research paper is an important way to join the scholarly conversation on your chosen topic.

And then take a look at the writing sample they give there.



To Turn In: For each of the four moves discussed in those materials, write a sentence or two describing how you plan to accomplish that move in your paper. Make sure that what you write is relevant to your specific topic in a substantive way. Also, be sure to number each of your four responses according to the numbering of the moves.





(2) The purpose of a research paper is to convince your reader of some specific assertion (which is called the "thesis" of your paper). Regardless of the specific topic or thesis of your paper, there are certain kinds of questions that will definitely come to your reader's mind; your job as an author is to make sure to provide the reader with the answers to those questions.

To Turn In: For each of the six basic questions discussed in that powerpoint presentation, write a sentence or two describing how you plan to answer that question in your paper. As before, what you write needs to be relevant to your specific topic in a substantive way. Also, be sure to preface each of your six responses with Toulmin's name for the type of answer.
