Patel’s argument was based on the Toulmin model, and it mainly appeals to the logos through the use of claims, support, and assumption. However, the importance of being a “good doctor” is also intertwined with the pathos of the doctors/medical students because not all view being a “good doctor” solely from skill, but also for their fortitude and empathy, which can be learned from the humanities. Hence, it might be better to use a combination of Toulmin and another argument such as Aristotelian and Rogerian arguments.
