The "Letter from South Carolina, 1682"describes Carolina as a place with harsh conditions. The aim of the Recruiting letter to South Carolina,1666 by Robert Horne was to entice English settlers to join the new colony of Carolina. According to Horne, those willing to join the new colony could experience freedom in various aspects of life and increase value in the proprietor's estate. Hornes sold the idea of freedom of religious liberty, freedom from custom, various economic opportunities, and power over the slaved Africans. Letter from South Carolina, 1682, offers the counter of Horne's prediction of what could await the settlers through Thomas Newe's experience. Thomas Newe describes his experience as dreadful by encountering deadly disease, lack of preparation, and frequent wars with the Native Americans. The document I trust the most is the "letter from South Carolina, 1682; his description appears more realistic since the letter was addressed to his father. No one wants to send word to their father based on lies about their failures and mistakes. He is clear in what he says and even mentions the part of the colony that has disappointed him and those he looks forward to, such as the soil, which produces whatever you put in it.
