The Roman Empire experienced numerous crises during its existence. During the frequent crises that struck the empire, the Western and Eastern Roman Empires emerged. Shortly after its establishment, the Western Empire vanished while the Eastern Empire lasted for more than a millennia. Numerous factors contributed to these happening during the period. The Eastern Empire endured because there were clear succession plans compared to the Western Empire. Most of the leaders installed in the Western Empire were through military action (Lynch, 2018). Therefore, the WestWest allowed military leaders to decide who would become the leader, whereas the East had elaborate succession procedures.
