RE: Use of Instant Messaging Apps Within the Workplace
It has come to my attention that some of our employees are using instant messaging applications to share confidential material and relay emergency information. We have a company policy that dictates how we should communicate and share information. Use of instant messaging violates our communication policies. Instant messaging applications are a security risk to the company. Instant messaging applications can be compromised, and our trade secrets may land in the hands of malicious individuals who can use them against us. Our ICT team evaluated the level of security built-in most of the common instant messaging apps, and they strongly advised against using them.
I, therefore, urge you to cease and desist from using any instant messaging apps to relay any company-related information. If you are not conversant with the company communication policy, please take time to go through it thoroughly. Anyone who is found to use any other communication channels other than those outlined in our communication guidelines book shall face disciplinary action.
