Whether we look at individuals,cities, or nations, everyone and everything has an impact on the Earth because we consume the finite products and services of nature. As a result, we each leave an ecological footprint, some environmental impact caused by the amount of natural resources we use and waste output we create. Footprints are calculated for countries by measuring the amount of resources (e.g. fossil fuel, acreage and land, housing, and transportation) consumed in a given year. Individual footprints can also be estimated. . ·

Calculating personal ecological footprint is an eye opener to how an individual should adjust to best meet the needs for sustainable living. Although I relied on multiple platforms to evaluate my ecological footprint, results from / are utilized for this discussion. I was shocked that my current lifestyle is detrimental to the universe. The results indicate that if everyone lived as I did, we would require 5.4 times Earth. Another worrying aspect of my current lifestyle is its impact on society. Society would collapse if every person made similar choices regarding goods, mobility, and food. At the same time, the exercise was necessary because it served as the first step toward positive change.
According to the literature, measuring one’s ecological footprint is beneficial because it determines the sustainability of the earth’s bio-capacity relative to personal choices (Mulrow et al., 2019; Tolppanen & Kang, 2021). Following my results, ...
