Industry Analysis of NVIDIA Using Porter’s Five Forces Student Name Institution Course Professor Date Industry Analysis of NVIDIA Using Porter’s Five Forces Company and Industry NVIDIA Corporation is an American technology company that came into existence in 1993. It has its base in Santa Clara, California. The company produces graphics processing units (GPUs) used in powering games, artificial intelligence (AI), autonomous driving, and data centers. The semiconductor and graphics card market is competitive, dynamic, and international. The main competitors are AMD, Intel, and custom chipmakers of the largest cloud providers. NVIDIA has high supplier power and a high rivalry, but it also has low new entry threat and lock-in to its ecosystem. Threat of New Entrants The risk of new market entrants is not high in the GPU market. It takes years of research and development and huge capital investment to enter this market. There are also old players like NVIDIA and AMD that customers are loyal to, and this makes it difficult to enter. Novices would require expertise and professional labor, so the task would be even more difficult. It is found that high technology industries with a high switching cost are less inviting to new entrants (He et al., 2023). Therefore, new entrants are not a threat to NVIDIA. Supplier Power There is high supplier power. NVIDIA relies on a limited number of suppliers to supply semiconductor wafers, including TSMC and Samsung. Due to the low substitution, these suppliers can greatly control the price and capacity. Changing suppliers is a costly and dangerous practice (Gunarathne et al., 2022). In this type of concentrated supply market, suppliers can enjoy a greater value for buyers. NVIDIA has attempted to mitigate this risk by developing long-term relationships; however, supplier power is still elevated. Buyers Power Buyers' bargaining power is moderate. On the one hand, the switching costs are high for most customers. NVIDIA GPUs are commonly used with its CUDA software, and replacing them is expensive ...
