Primary care refers to healthcare provided at the community level for people making an initial approach to a medical professional or health facility for treatment or advice. In the era of evidence-based and patient-centered approaches to healthcare, it can be argued that each patient has unique primary care needs. However, these primary care needs for individuals can be categorized according to age as one of the key differential factors. In other words, the primary care needs of older adults, for instance, differ from that of the general population of adults. The current paper explores these differences.
Geriatric vs. Adult Medicine
The first instance in which the primary care needs for older people differ from that of adults results from the fact that geriatric patients are physiologically different from other age groups.
