Why do planets revolve around the sun and not the moon? According to the Johannes Kepler planets, planets rotate around the sun since its gravity keeps them in their respective orbits. Besides, as the primary energy source, the sun has a strong gravitational pull that holds all the planets around it. The current motion of the planets depends on the gravitational attraction of the sun, which is at the center of the solar system (Kepler, 2003). The gravitational force that pulls inwards and inertia drives outwards are the two forces that act on the planets. If the gravitational force were dominant, the planets would be likely to spiral inwards. On the contrary, the planets would spiral outwards if the inertia would be prevalent.
