Jerry Maguire (Ethical Duties of a Sports Agent) Student’s Name Institutional Affiliation Course Instructor Due Date Jerry Maguire (Ethical Duties of a Sports Agent) Short Summary of The Jerry Maguire Movie Jerry Maguire is a phenomenon film starring Tom Cruise as a sports agency. The film’s storyline emerges from an incident when one of Maguire’s clients is injured, and the child is very angry with him as an agent based on what the child believes to be his failure to have his dad’s interest in mind. This incident rubs Maguire in a way that he starts pondering on what it means to represent someone as a sports agent. These thoughts led to him drafting what the film describes as a mission statement, which he distributed to everyone who attended the company’s annual conference. The mission statement captures the idea of “few clients, less money” (Crowe & Brooks, 1996). In his opinion, Maguire believed that this was the approach the company needed to follow if it was to care for its clients. The idea was not what the company was looking for, resulting in him being fired a week later by his protégé, Bob Sugar. Upon his dismissal, Maguire spends most of his afternoon contacting all his clients to lure them to remain as his. His efforts are futile since he only manages to maintain one client, the very outspoken Rod Tidwell. The reason for Tidwell remaining with Maguire is because all he wants is for him to “Show Him the Money” (Crowe & Brooks, 1996). Later, his efforts to win a larger client base led Maguire to lure Cushman’s dad to let him be Cush’s sports agent for the upcoming NFL. However, despite him being the agent, Maguire did not sign a contract with Cush at the time, which was a wrong move as he later lost him to Bob. On the other hand, Maguire has to stay with Rod and continue being his agent, ensuring that his needs as a sportsman are cared for by him as the agent. The Ethical Dilemma(S) Jerry Maguire Faced in This Movie From the PowerPoint, a sports agent has various responsibilities to their client, with some of the roles being operating in a position of trust similar to that of a patient-physician re...
