The Medicare and Medicaid program has a variety of components. Some examples of these are (1) inpatient/hospital coverage, (2) outpatient/medical coverage, and (3) prescription drug coverage CITATION Mednd \l 1033 (Medicare.gov, n.d.). Accordingly, each of these coverages provides for a variety of rules and regulations that determines the eligibility of a patient as well as the amount of treatment that he could receive.
While these programs are essential to cover the medical needs of the citizens, there are a variety of gaps that are still to be addressed, such as lack of long-term care and dental care.
On the one hand, the gap in long-term care is apparent, especially in minority populations that are dependent on long-term care. Notably, in one study conducted by Fullen, Lawson, and Sharma (2020), the authors found out that elderly from ethnic minorities in the United States have greater needs for long-term care, yet lesser capacity to get them.
