Organ buying shortens the queue for those waiting for organ donors because of the increased supply of organs, but this raises major ethical issues promoting objectification and exploitation.
Literature Review
The commercialization of human organs has become an issue worldwide despite it offering a solution to the shortage of organs for transplantation. The cycle is not broken because of the continuous supply and demand for organs such as the cornea, kidney, and liver in the world (DePergola II, 2018).
Organ buying poses a threat because it violates a rule in medicine, which is “primum non nocere” or “above all, do no harm” then this even affects human dignity because the human organ is bought with money. Buying organs also put the donors at risk, not only during the surgery but also because of the long-term effects that donating an organ does to the body, increasing the donors’ risk of certain diseases.
