Statistics And Appraisal Of Evidence

Statistical significance refers to the likelihood that the results of a study are not due to chance, while clinical significance refers to the practical importance of the results in terms of their impact on patient care. In other words, statistical significance is a measure of the strength of the evidence, while clinical significance is a measure of the relevance of the evidence to real-world situations.
Using a quantitative research article from one of the previous topics, analyze the p-value. What is it? Is it statistically significant? If your p-value is not statistically significant, what is the clinical significance? Generalizability of research depends on a variety of factors. List three factors of generalizability, and discuss whether this research article is generalizable to the nursing problem you are researching.

High-specification foam mattresses (HFMs) and alternating pressure mattresses (APMs) help prevent pressure ulcers. This paper discusses p-values and generalizability in research.
P-value (p) is a level that determines if there is a significant difference between a sample estimate and a hypothesized value (Shreffler & Huecker, 2023). The value reflects the likelihood that the observed effects (study's findings) would have happened by chance if there is no verifiable effect in reality. Research data with p <0.05 is statistically significant. As a result, researchers reject the null hypothesis. However, if p>0.05, researchers accept the null hypothesis since there is no statistically significant difference.
The null hypothesis in the quantitative study by Nickson et al. (2019) reflected a lack of statistical difference between participants using HFMs and APMs in preventing pressure ulcer development. The researchers measured the time difference between the study groups to develop pressure injuries category ≥ 2 in a maximum of 90 days. Only 160 out of 2029 patients developed pressure ulcers. The findings reflected a p-value of 0.0890 in the time difference between the participants to develop pressure ulcers category ≥ 2. Th...
