Fragile X syndrome is a disorder that is linked to the X chromosome. The genetic condition leads to numerous developmental problems, which is the case for Mason, the 4-year-old boy. It is one of the most common forms of mental disorder inherited and leads to mental retardation. The phenotype includes macroorchidism, prominent ears, and also behavioral issues for the child (Berry-Kravis et al., 2018). The condition has a unique inheritance pattern that entails nonpenetrant males. The condition is more common in males than females, occurring in approximately one in 4,000 males and one in 8,000 females, and it arises due to mutations in the FMR1 gene (Hagerman et al., 2018).
