Restrictive and Obstructive Respiratory Disorder.
Differences
The restrictive disorder is a lung disease that restricts lung expansion. As a result, there is a decrease in lung volume capacity hence, difficulties in breathing. At the same time, the obstructive disorder is also a lung disease where the respiratory system of a patient has blockages that prevent air from flowing in and out freely of the air passage; for example, the windpipe gets narrower, which also leads to difficulties in breathing, i.e., asthma (Obstructive Lung Disease: Symptoms, Diagnosis, and Treatment, n.d.). In the following paragraphs, I will discuss the causes of Restrictive Disorder, pathophysiological changes, and the alterations in pulmonary functions.
Causes of Restrictive Disorder.
The restrictive disorder is caused by conditions that make the lungs or muscles around the lungs stiffen. This condition may be obesity, asbestosis, silicosis, pulmonary fibrosis, muscular dystrophy, etc. Other conditions may originate from the ...
