Gonorrhea is a sexually transmitted disease caused by the bacterium Neisseria gonorrhoeae. Normally, it affects organs used for sexual intercourse, such as the anus, Vagina, penis, and mouth. Also, it affects reproductive organs. In women, Neisseria gonorrhoeae contaminates the mucous membrane of the cervix, Vagina, uterus, and fallopian tube. According to CDC, women with gonorrhea exhibit frequent urination, anal or rectal area discomfort, bleeding in the Vagina, increased bacterial discharge, pelvic pain, and pain during urination.
Consequently, this leads to fallopian tube inflammation, pelvic inflammatory diseases ( PID), or infertility ( CDC,2022). Further, Men show symptoms like pus at the tip of their penis, swollen testicles, pain during urination, and redness around the urethra. Additionally, when not treated, it results in enlargement of the epididymis and prostate gland inflammation ( CDC,2022). Notably, in both men and women, gonorrhea is asymptomatic.
