According to TED-Ed (2014), once one eats foods rich in sugars, the tongue’s taste receptors send a chemical signal to the cerebral cortex part of the brain. Freeman et al. (2018) add that the chemoreceptor cells that send messages to the brain through neurotransmitters are also present in other body parts, including the gut. (2018) underline that the release of dopamine (DA) stays consistent with the pleasure an individual gains from consuming the sweet-tasting food.
