2. Brief summary of the event discussion.
The discussion outlined how technologists and leaders use and implement AI to augment healthcare delivery by making and supporting decisions, tailoring interventions based on individual clients, and improving how organizations run more proficiently. Dr. Lubarsky stated that even though AI has a strong influence, doctors and nurses still have the final say regarding corrective actions. Chornenky added that AI can fill the gaps in the healthcare system by contributing to health and patient experiences. Moreover, the speakers spoke about what AI could do, such as tracking patients' conditions and taking notes, which can help avoid overwhelming the healthcare workers. However, they warned that the associated problems may reinforce current prejudices in treatment or rely on false data from AI. As expected, both speakers called for the AI implementation to be safe, ethical, and equal in reinforcing human healthcare workers rather than replacing them. Finally, the panelists also spoke briefly about what comes next for AI as an enabler that would allow for increasing volume and capability of care delivery beyond fixed resources without expanding the human labor required. They also asserted that AI has the potential to reduce bias for professionals within healthcare and fair treatment of patients from different backgrounds, as well as using data analytics for customizations of therapies for various patients (UC et al., 2024)

The UC Davis Health (2024) provides a discussion that shares this week's discussion from the American Medical Association (2024). Both stress AI as the enhanced form of intelligence that supports physicians in the program to enhance career outcomes but do not exclude the human factor. Like the AMA report, Dr. David Lubarsky and Dennis Chornenky pay much attention to the ethical, equal, and reasonable use of artificial intelligence, note that biases can be present in models, and emphasize the need for their assessment. This is in line with the American Medical Association’s (2024) position that AI should be in a manner that improves all patients, especially those who are disadvantaged.
Additionally, the discussion by UC Davis Health (2024) is related to this week’s discussion from The Commonwealth Fund (2024), which stresses the significance of the changes in healthcare, including Medicare, telemedicine, and transparency. AI can help Congress solve such...
