Nightingale’s Environmental Theory
Florence Nightingale founded the environmental theory. Nightingale conceptualized nursing as using the patient's surroundings to aid and facilitate their recovery (Hussain & Karim, 2020). The theory states that nurses should modify patients' environments to suit their recovery.
The environmental theory has four major concepts. The first concept is nursing, which involves placing patients in appropriate environmental conditions to allow nature to affect their health (Pfettscher, 2021). The second concept is people/human beings and how they relate to the environment, including how it affects or impacts their health. The third concept is the environment, defined as a person's surroundings and how it affects their health status. The fourth concept is health, which emphasizes nurses' role in prioritizing their patients' well-being.
