Provider Attitudes Discussion Paper Patients with mental health issues need knowledgeable healthcare providers who are free from stigmatizing behaviors. Healthcare providers' stigmatizing attitudes might lead to verbal or physical abuse of mental health patients, which undermines the quality of services (Ghuloum et al., 2022). For instance, physicians might use derogatory statements like crazy people to address patients. Providers with a biased attitude toward patients tend to discredit the patient's condition (Young & Calloway, 2021). The providers make decisions that downplay the severity of the actual condition. This culminates in delayed treatment and deterioration of the patient’s mental well-being outcomes. Physicians need to understand service user’s rights to prevent stigmatization and promote quality care and optimal treatment for patients with mental health issues (Abdalla et al., 2022). Such efforts promote better-informed clinical decisions that promote the patient's wellness. Psychiatrist's attitudes might influence them to prescribe drugs with a higher risk ratio as compared to the benefits.
