Policy in healthcare is critically essential as it outlines the plan of action used to achieve desired outcomes and making informed decisions. In the complex healthcare environment, healthcare policy is the basis for providing quality and safe care. Health policy involves all decisions, actions, and plans that are undertaken to achieve specific health goals within a community (World Health Organization, 2020). Thus said, nurses play a vital role in the planning, decision making, and development of effective health, public, and nursing policy in healthcare. However, lack of involvement, lack of knowledge and skills, negative image of nursing, lack of enabling structures, and financial constraints influence nurses' ability to participate in health policy development actively.
Over the years, nursing has been considered a weaker profession in the healthcare system. In reality, nurses are often regarded as helpers of the heroic physicians and surgeons. For this reason, their contribution to policy development has been neglected or considered to be weaker.
