Data Plotting and Information Analysis: High- and Low-Risk Cities of Infection

Coursework Instructions:

While information can point to certain truths and reveal gaps in care that should be addressed, information is neutral until it is assigned a purpose. As you progress in your career, you will continually return to the Triple Aim, which ensures quality management in its clear focus on improving the patient experience, improving the health of populations, and improving the cost of care for patients. This week you consider the best application for information you have learned from your data analyses.

Part I: Plotting Data on a Map

Read the following scenario:

Now that you know where the outbreaks are located and which age groups are most affected, your organization wants to map out the areas that pose the highest exposure risk.

Create a symbols map using Microsoft Excel and the data provided in the High Risk Areas spreadsheet to determine the areas of the country with the most risk.

Review the “Plotting Data onto a Map in Microsoft Excel” document for instructions on completing this portion of the assignment.

Write a 350- to 525-word analysis of the data that answers the following questions:

Which cities (states) are high risk and low risk?

Which areas of the country are high risk and low risk?

What else can be deduced after evaluating the chart?

Include your map with your analysis, not separately. Label as a “Figure” according to APA formatting.

Part II: Information Analysis

Compare the charts and graphs you created for the reports in previous assessments and determine conclusions based on the analysis of the data.

Select a health care facility or service (e.g., hospital, physician practice, long-term care facility, ambulance service, pharmacy, or skilled nursing facility).

Write a 700- to 1,050-word analysis, addressing the following:

Describe how your selected health care facility or service can benefit from the information you gathered and analyzed in the previous assessments.

Examine any conflicts of interest, ethical considerations, or community health effects that may factor into the benefits identified.

Identify any points that can be served by further research into either the facility, a service it provides, or the given data.

Reference data, graphs, and charts to support your claims.

Cite at least 2 scholarly references to support your assignment. Feel free to use supplemental readings from peer-reviewed journals as references. Do not use ".com" commercial, ".edu" education, ".org," or ".net" proprietary sources. You may use one .gov reference, such as the CDC or NIH.
Compile Part I and Part II into a report that could be submitted to the leadership in your organization.
Format your report according to APA guidelines.
i added an extra page for the graph to be done

Part I
The use of a symbols map provides an opportunity for one to present data in a visually appealing manner. From the data provided, a visual map can indicate the high-risk cities as well as the low-risk cities for the infection and their geographical location in the country.
High-Risk and Low-Risk Areas
From the map, it is evident that the high-risk areas for the infection are Miami, New Orleans, Mesa, Long Beach, Atlanta, and Jacksonville. The six cities have the highest prevalence rates for the infection, with the data largely in line with the previous charts that showed the infection to be mainly prevalent in those cities. On the other hand, Philadelphia, Chicago, Omaha, Indianapolis, Washington D.C., and Virginia Beach are low-risk cities for the infection. The individual prevalence rate of the infection in the four low-risk areas is less than 1 person per 100,000.
Most Affected Areas
The infection is heavily prevalent in the Southern region of the United States. To this end, Miami, Jacksonville, Atlanta, and New Orleans are all located in the Southeast region of the United States, while Mesa and Long Beach are in the Southwest region of the country. On the other hand, the Northern region of the country has the lowest prevalence rates of infection. Philadelphia, Washington D.C, and several other major cities with low prevalence rates are all located in the Northern East region of the country.

Other Deductions
From the review of the map, the infection tends to affect cities that are close to each other. The cities that are close to the Ocean in the Southern US have a high prevalence rate of the infection as evidenced by the fact that Miami, New Orleans, Mesa, Jacksonville, and Long Beach are the top five cities with the highest prevalence of the infection and they are all coastal towns. In the same vein, the five cities all touch either the Atlantic Ocean, the Pacific Ocean, or the Gulf of Mexico. One can speculate that the spread of the infection correlates with the presence of beaches or other utilities that are found along the ocean. In addition, one can deduce that the infection mainly affects the aged given that Florida (one of the most affected states) has one of the largest elderly populations.
Part II
Based on the analysis of data, Miami has the highest infection prevalence rate per 100,000 at 65.5 cases, followed by New Orleans, Mesa, Long Beach, and Atlanta. All the cities are in the Southeast region of the United States. An analysis of the infected population shows that the infection largely affects the population aged below 18 years and those aged above 61 years. Using the data on the infection can help a healthcare organization prepare itself to effectively prepare to deal with the infection and its potential influence on the organization’s ability to provide care. Florida Medical Center is a healthcare facility located in Miami-Dade County. The facility offers services that include emergency care, general care, and a spine program. It is essential to consider how the information on the prevalence of the infection can help the facility prepare itself to ensure that it can handle the increased demand for services.
Benefits
First, the facility can use the data on the prevalence rate per 100,000 people to better underst...
