Be sure to include five references. === July 10th addon WEEK 7 DISCUSSION Criterion Two: Integrity: Ethical, and Responsible Conduct An institution of higher education that has experienced a crisis that had an ethical or integrity component is The university of New Mexico. The ethical or integrity issue concerned the retraction of two research papers written by a group of researchers from The university of New Mexico. The retraction came about after The university of New Mexico conducted an investigation and established that there was evidence of data manipulation in the two papers, which meant that their research results were unreliable (Marcus, 2021). For this reason, The university of New Mexico requested the editors of the journals in which the articles were published to retract them. The first article dubbed “Large-Area Semiconducting Graphene Nanomesh Tailored by Interferometric Lithography” was published in 2015 in the Scientific Reports journal and had been cited 25 times, while the second article titled “Vertical charge Transfer and Lateral Transport in Graphene/Germanium Heterostructures” was published in 2017 in the Applied Materials & Interfaces, which is the American Chemical Society journal and had been cited twice (Marcus, 2021). Manipulation of data in research papers is one of the issues that violate Criterion 2: Integrity: Ethical and Responsible Conduct of the Higher Learning Commission (HLC) in Section 2.E. 1, which holds that “integrity of research and Scholarly practice” is conducted by staff, students, and faculty, and Section 2.E. 4, which stipulates that the “institution enforces policies on academic honesty and integrity” (HLC, 2024). As an institution that is accredited by the HLC, The university of New Mexico ensured that it acted with integrity when it investigated the two research papers to ensure that it adhered to the accreditation requirements of integrity, ethical, and responsible conduct (The university of New Mexico, 2019). To avoid the violation of Criterion 2: Integrity: Ethical and Responsible Conduct of the Higher Learning Commission (HLC), the Scholar recommends that institutions of higher education investigate research papers published by a group of researchers from their institutions before they are submitted to journals for publishing. In doing so, institutions of higher education will not be required to retract papers that are already published as that tarnishes their reputation and future research papers.   This is my discussion i wrote for week 7 discussion. however, the entire week 7 both discussion and assignment were based on ethical and integrity. Every student is expected to choose an institution and identify an ethical or integrity crisis.
