Question 1
Women have historically been discriminated against in sports in many ways primarily due to their gender. When it comes to executive positions in sports, women have historically been underrepresented. Even as of 2008, women accounted for only 11% of vice presidents or higher positions in professional sports franchises. Women have also faced a glass ceiling that has limited their advancement in sports. A case example is that of Pam Postena, who tried to make it as an umpire in MLB but could not because of a glass ceiling. In addition, women have also been discriminated against in coaching, where their number is limited. Nonetheless, with attitudes changing for the better, there is no doubt that sport is increasingly becoming more inclusive of women.
Question 2
Attitudes that have traditionally limited women's participation in sports can be changed through law and education. When a law is formulated to ban discrimination against women, it communicates that women should be respected. An example is Title IX, which gave women the have equal opportunities in sports. Therefore, through law, attitudes about women's participation can be changed. Education can also be significant in changing attitudes towards women. In this sense, education can teach people that the female body, just like the male body, has some advantages. Women's bodies have advantages in balance, flexibility, and stability. If education emphasizes these capabilities of women, it can contribute to changing attitudes about women in sports.

Youth programs present an opportunity to teach young boys and girls to respect and value the participation of girls in sports. Young people can be taught of the flexibility, balance, and stability that characterize the bodies of girls.
