ERG Theory and Maslow's Hierarchy
The ERG and Maslow's Hierarchy theories hold several similarities. First, they both describe and uncover motivation in humans and its influence on behavior. A common idea embedded in both theories is that humans have important basic requirements which motivate them to act in a certain manner (Stewart et al., 2018). Secondly, both theories are expressed in hierarchical systems, where more concrete needs are at the lower level while the least concrete needs are at the higher level.
One key difference between the theories is that while Maslow's theory has five levels expressed in ascending order, the ERG theory has three.
