Health History
Mr. C., a 32-year-old single male, is seeking information at the outpatient center regarding possible bariatric surgery for his obesity. He currently works at a catalog telephone center. He reports that he has always been heavy, even as a small child, gaining approximately 100 pounds in the last 2-3 years. Critical Thinking Essay
In 750-1,000 words, critically evaluate Mr. C.'s potential diagnosis and intervention(s). Include the following:
Describe the clinical manifestations present in Mr. C.
Describe the potential health risks for obesity that are of concern for Mr. C. Discuss whether bariatric surgery is an appropriate intervention.
Assess each of Mr. C.'s functional health patterns using the information given. Discuss at least five actual or potential problems can you identify from the functional health patterns and provide the rationale for each. (Functional health patterns include health-perception, health-management, nutritional, metabolic, elimination, activity-exercise, sleep-rest, cognitive-perceptual, self-perception/self-concept, role-relationship, sexuality/reproductive, coping-stress tolerance.)
Explain the staging of end-stage renal disease (ESRD) and contributing factors to consider.
Consider ESRD prevention and health promotion opportunities. Describe what type of patient education should be provided to Mr. C. for prevention of future events, health restoration, and avoidance of deterioration of renal status.
Explain the type of resources available for ESRD patients for nonacute care and the type of multidisciplinary approach that would be beneficial for these patients. Consider aspects such as devices, transportation, living conditions, return-to-employment issues.

Being overweight and obese are critical health conditions affecting most patients. Obesity involves excess accumulation of body fat and leads to other secondary diseases such as cardiovascular problems and ESRD. Besides, it is also linked to other conditions such as high blood pressure and heart-related problems. The prevention of overweight and ESRD requires a well-established medical plan with adequate resources. The paper addresses Mr. C's health condition after reviewing different clinical manifestations.
Clinical Manifestations
Mr. C shows various clinical manifestations. Apnea is one of the critical manifestations which is caused by his high cholesterol value. For instance, 250mg/dl is above the normal 200mg/dl, a critical health problem. Besides, there is an extreme glucose level of 146mg/dl above the normal range between 115 and 70mg/dl. However, despite the manifestations, the major problem is overweight caused by extreme fat accumulation (Wadden & Bray, 2018). His overweight is also accompanied by other related issues such as high blood pressure at 172/98mm/Hg. The normal blood pressure should be 120/80 mm/Hg. Therefore, the clinical manifestations show that Mr. C's critical health condition requires immediate medical attention.
Health Risks and Bariatric Surgery
The major health risk associated with obesity in Mr. C's case is reduced physical activity. Mr. C does not have adequate walking time, majorly caused by his occupation. Besides, the occupation limits him from participating in other physical activities, enhancing the burning of excessive fats. Reduced activeness makes him gain 100 pounds. Besides, apnea is a critical health risk caused by high cholesterol accumulation. Bariatric surgery is an appropriate intervention to reduce weight. According to Larraufie et al. (2019), bariatric surgery, also known as gastric bypass, is conducted due to low physical activity and poor diet and is meant to reduce weight. The case study shows that physical exercise is not working out due to his occupation; therefore, the suitable intervention is bariatric surgery.
Functional Health Patterns
Different problems that Mr. C faces are linked to various functional health patterns. The first problem is extreme weight gain due to a lack of physical activity. Reduced physical activeness increases weight gain (Wadden & Bray, 2018). The second problem is apnea which also comes from physical activity functional patterns. Apnea results from poor body metabolism. The third problem is extreme cholesterol levels due to a lack of physical activity. Fourthly, high level of cholesterol is also caused by poor nutrition. Mr. C consumes more fat-related products, which in turn jeopardizes his health. The fifth problem is respiratory issues. Mr. C suffers from a respiratory problem caused by artery blockage...
