Case Study of Information System

Case Study Instructions:
It is important to understand what information systems are and why they are essential for running and managing a business. The case studies below will provide you with an opportunity to review many of the concepts covered in this course. These case studies provide you with an opportunity to critically analyze events that are taking place in real-life organizations. This helps to develop your critical thinking and research skills as you research each of these scenarios. For this assignment, you will review four case studies. You will evaluate the studies and address each of the requirements listed below, using both critical thinking and theory as well as supporting documentation. Review and analyze the Chapter 1 Case Study “Will the Coronavirus Pandemic Make Working from Home the New Normal?” and address the following: Define the problem described in this case. What are the management, organization, and technology issues raised by this problem? Identify the information technologies used to provide a solution to this problem. Was this a successful solution? Why, or why not? Will working from home become the dominant way of working in the future? Why, or why not? Review and analyze the Chapter 2 Case Study “Is Social Business Good Business?” and address the following: Identify the management, organization, and technology factors affecting adoption of internal corporate social networks. Compare the experiences implementing internal social networks of the organizations described in this case. Why was Standard Bank successful? What role did management play in this process? Should all companies implement internal enterprise social networks? Why, or why not? Review and analyze the Chapter 8 Case Study “Is the Equifax Hack the Worst Ever—and Why?” and address the following: Identify and discuss the security and control issues that resulted from flaws in Equifax security and control. What management, organization, and technology factors contributed to these problems? Discuss the impact of the Equifax hack. How can future data breaches like this one be prevented? Explain your answer. Finally, review the case study “Capital One: A Big Bank Heist from the Cloud” from Chapter 8, and address the prompts below. Discuss at least two security threats to cloud data. What should companies do to protect cloud data? Discuss why both the company and the cloud vendor are responsible for security. Discuss at least one security control that companies can use to increase security. You are required to use a minimum of two peer-reviewed, academic sources that are no more than 5 years old to support each case study. You may use your eTextbook once in each case study. All sources used, including the eTextbook, must be referenced; all paraphrased material must have accompanying in-text citations. APA style and formatting is required

Information System Name Institution Course and Code Professor Date Information System Chapter 1: “Will the Coronavirus Pandemic Make Working from Home the New Normal?” The issue discussed in this case study entails how companies are considering embracing a working-from-home strategy after the COVID-19 pandemic. Besides, numerous corporations implemented technologies to allow their employees to work remotely during the coronavirus pandemic. The management of the problem described is done through the acquisition or use of appropriate technologies. Companies have become more organized when it comes to determining the tasks that can be performed by remote workers. Although the technologies that can be used for this transition exist, not everyone can afford them. Some of them include laptops, high-speed Internet connection, and videoconferencing tools, such as Zoom, Skype, BlueJeans, Microsoft Teams, Google Meet, and Cisco’s WebEx. In particular, various information technologies can be used to facilitate the transition from office-based to remote working. The rapid changes in information and communication technologies (ICT) have significantly contributed to the success of the work-from-home setup due to the affordability of electronic devices, increased processing speeds, and the accessibility of Internet connections. For example, ICT has made remote interpersonal interactions easy, data storage and sharing, and video conferencing (Caliliw, Gonzales, & Valenzuela, 2022). A successful solution to the identified issue can be implemented if employees have high-speed Internet connections and affordable videoconferencing tools, such as GoToMeeting, Zoom, Skype, Google Meet, Cisco WebEx, Microsoft Teams, and Amazon Chime among others. Moreover, studies have approved that working from home does not tamper with worker productivity. In this digital era, working from home is likely to be the most dominant way of working in the future. Although a few companies had implemented this work strategy before the COVID-19 pandemic, after the disease outbreak many corporations, large and medium, have embraced it (Bick, Blandin, & Mertens, 2023). In addition, more affordable technologies have been introduced to make working from home possible. Regardless of the company size, it is now possible to access technologies that can facilitate videoconferencing and effective remote communications. As a result, this mode of working will become dominant in the future. Chapter 2: “Is Social Business Good Business?” The successful adoption of internal corporate social networks can significantly foster workplace collaboration. However, the management factors that might affect this process include the cost of implementing workplace collaboration tools, business processes, and an organization’s culture. The organization factors include the acceptability of the chosen technological tool by employees and resistance to change. In that light, when a company wants to adopt an internal social network, it is advisable for it to allow workers to participate so that they can give their contributions. That way, it becomes easy for them to transition without resistance since they feel like part of the decision-makers. Besides, employees are the ones who use these technological tools to interact with their colleagues, exchange information, and knowledge (Chen et al., 2023). The technology factors include the ease of use, training required, and system maintenance. As such, considering all these aspects helps a firm to succeed in the implementation of an effective workplace collaboration tool. Some organizations succeed and others fail when it comes to choosing the right internal social networks. For example, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) had to abandon Spacebook, which was a custom-built enterprise social network. Spacebook was challenging for employees to use since its design did not align with NASA’s organizational culture. On the contrary, Standard Bank succeeded in implementing Microsoft Yammer. The bank found this collaborative platform perfect for its use since it promoted effective internal communications among employees, especially in posting content via PowerPoint presentations. The management team played a crucial role in testing Yammer and recommending it for use by Standard Bank after experiencing its ease of use and efficiency. Notably, employees were easily influenced t...
