The Enchantment Emporium Analysis
Understanding the roles that characters play in relation to the overall theme of story is important for any reader. It allows him to be able to understand the actions of a character as well as the underlying circumstances that prompted her to do such actions. In this article, I would discuss about the actions of Catherin Gale, who is one of the main protagonists in the story. As could be seen in the main plot of the story, Gale did not abide by the rules that the Gale family has as she believes that she is a ‘new generation’ of the family. Accordingly, this action where she does not abide by the rules of her ‘Aunties’ compared to what has been done by the previous generations, was one of the main points of the story. All in all, I believe that the reason why she wanted to escape the traditions of the family was because of her grandmother’s influence as well as her desire for another character Graham.
The Family tradition
The main plot of the story features the Gales as a family that is heavily run by tradition and extremely close family ties. In fact, the story shows that Gales are forced to sleep with one another in order to preserve their own power, which is even mandated by their Aunties. While this tradition seems to be a commonly accepted norm within the family, it also seems that such traditions becomes overly restrictive about each of the member’s actions. For example, no one could be allowed to marry anyone even if they love the person a lot. This forces the main character to run away and choose her own fate instead.
In line with this, it could be seen that the main protagonist, Catherine Gale, said that she is a ‘new generation’ of the Gales. This shows her desire to experience life and decide on her own fate, despite wanting to still be a part of the Gale family. Accordingly, what fueled her own...
