Annotated Bibliography Name Institution Course Instructor Date Annotated Bibliography Introduction A credible and up-to-date source is fundamental in the establishment of a modern healthcare life environment, reaching a rational decision, and identifying the proper operational strategies to be followed. This assessment hinges on the crucial issue of inaccessible healthcare, which is an issue that has affected various segments of the population, but more so in rural areas. Studying other approaches to this problem will contribute to the identification of the kinds of interventions, as well as ways to decrease the given sources of disparity in access to health care. Overview Summary of the Healthcare Issue: Limited Access to Healthcare Limited access to health care prevents an individual from receiving adequate or desirable health care. Some of the reasons why this has been the case include geographical location, cost, scarcity of doctors, transport, and lack of health coverage. These barriers to healthcare access lead to frequent hospital visits because of patients’ unmet healthcare needs and significant inequalities in access to healthcare in rural and underserved regions. Professional Relevance of the Topic Accessibility, cost of care, and level of health care are important determinants of one's health status. Healthcare professionals must understand the causes behind limited access to healthcare in its broadest sense to seek sufficient solutions as well as practices. Therefore, it is important to address this issue to enhance health equity and the population's health, particularly those in rural areas. Professional Experience with the Topic As for my practice, I have been privileged to work at the community health clinic, especially with rural clients. This has given me a close view of the hardships the communities mentioned above go through in trying to achieve their aim of accessing health essentials, such as having to travel for long distances to access a health facility or having to deal with extremely high costs of health care. These experiences reveal the necessity for developing interventions that could eliminate these problems. Articles, Search Criteria, and Databases To identify relevant scholarly peer-reviewed articles, I conducted searches using the following keywords: health insurance, rural health, rural nursing, telehealth, healthcare access, chronic disease, and health-seeking behavior. The databases employed in the search were PubMed, CINAHL, and Google Scholar. PubMed is an extensive database for biomedical investigations that can cover issues related to healthcare demand, supply, and its impact. CINAHL is another important source of nursing and allied health literature focusing on practice and trends in clinical and community health. Google Scholar is a multidisciplinary database containing articles, theses, books, and conference papers, including peer-reviewed items. I chose articles with a publication date of the last 3 to 5 years to ensure that the information obtained is current. The criteria for source selection included the reliability of the sources, relevance to the subject of healthcare accessibility, and the research methods employed in the works. Selected Articles Kolluri, S., Stead, T. S., Mangal, R. K., Coffee, R. L., Littell, J., & Ganti, L. (2022). Telehealth in Response to the Rural Health Disparity. Health Psychology Research, 10(3), 37445. https://doi.org/10.52965/001c.37445 The article explores how telehealth may help in addressing the rural health disparity that the COVID-19 outbreak has exacerbated. In the study conducted among 200 rural participants, 88% showed a willingness to engag...
