From the beginning, marriage aimed to provide companionship and sexual fulfillment to the man and woman.
Man and woman have different roles in a marriage relationship: In a marriage relationship, man and have different functions. None is more superior to the other, but they are different. Man’s responsibility is to provide for the family while a woman will bear children. From the creation narrative, man is considered to be the eventual headship over the family, including his wife.[ Gayle Somers and Sarah Christmyer, Genesis: Part I: God and His Creation Genesis 1-11 (Emmaus Road Publishing, 2004)] [The Book of Deuteronomy: Introduction and Commentary (2015)]

Headship and Submission
Headship
The society is filled with biased information on the true meaning of authority and submission. This challenge has been there since the fall of man in Genesis chapter three. In our culture, headship is defined as an entitlement, superiority, rights or privilege. Primacy is not all about opportunity and superiority. Advantage leads to broken relationships, lack of trust, abuse and resentment. If one party has a superiority attitude, it means that the other party is considered inferior.
In a marriage context, the husband is the head of the family. He has the authority to lead his family spiritually and also pave a direction for his family. God has bestowed husbands with stewardships; thus, he must lead his family in the right teachings of God. A husband should be loving, selfless, sacrificial, servant-hearted and caring. It is the joy of a husband to help his family or home and his delight to be affectionate towards his wife. He ensures that his family is well protected, and provided for, spiritually, emotionally, financially spiritually.
According to the bible, headship is the desire to willingly give one's life for another out of compassion, care and love. Husbands should love and treat their wives as their flesh. A husband greatest desire is for his wife fully respects him while the wife expects to be loved unconditionally. A wife craves for his husband’s attention and affection while a husband needs to feel appreciated and acknowledged for his effort in providing for the family. If a wife respects her husband and her husband continuously love her and takes care of the family, the marriage is unified. In a marriage where a man does not listen to his wife does not support her nor bosses her around is not considered as biblical headship and submission. This type of marriage is likely to fail. A husband should use his authority to bring up a happy and unified family.[John Drane, The World of the Bible (Kidderminster: Lion Books, 2014)] [Scott LaPierre, Marriage God's Way: A Biblical Recipe for Healthy, Joyful, Christ-Centered Relationships (2016)]
