Name Institution Course Professor Date Reflection on Race and Gender Intersections in Sports Movies and Reality Reflecting on Race and gender, I have come to understand that these aspects of identity are inseparable and must be analyzed together. Race is not simply about racial identity, and gender is not solely about biological or social constructs—they co-create each other, shaping experiences in ways that are deeply intertwined (Asenbaum 88). This realization is well illustrated in the sports genre of movies and real-life stories, especially where Race and gender combine to elaborate hardships faced by disadvantaged persons while reducing systematic problems to undesirable occurrences. Analyzing these topics in the light of Race, 42, and Chang Can Dunk and backed up by real-life experience contributed much to understanding Identity, Minority, and Oppression. In Race, the film draws parallels between racism in 1930s America and antisemitism in Nazi Germany, exposing the systemic oppression faced by African Americans and Jewish communities. Jesse Owens’ triumph is portrayed as a personal victory and a commentary on resilience against racial barriers. Avery Brundage, a U.S. authority figure, embodies the hypocrisy of condemning Nazi racism while perpetuating American segregation. Similarly, 42 portrays Jackie Robinson’s journey as the first Black player in Major League Baseball. Finally, the film shows how Robinson’s Race defined his manhood.
