This study explains socialization as a tool for human growth, expose the agent of socialization, come up with a single institution that is most preferred for the understand of this phrase, and elaborate on how the explained institution helped shape you a person. Socialization is referred to as a procedural development through which an organism in its living state is transformed into a complete social being. A human learns how to be social from birth as he grows as he also gets knowledge of responsibility. Human social development depends on the environment he grows in as behavioral shaping depends on it. This also is determined by the cultural pattern that inculcates personality to the child. Socialism prepares a child to fit in a social pattern that includes the performance of certain roles and duties. This helps a child incorporated easily in a group and is capable of adjusting to new and diverse patterns. Socialism is facilitated by different agents that are interrelated and play important roles in life. They include the family, peer groups, religion, educational institutions, occupation, political parties, and mass media Furedi (2009). Family The family is one of the fundamental agencies of socialization. The family forms the basis of a community that is responsible for the shaping of an individual’s character and personality. Without the family in its place, all other agencies face a challenge on the process of shaping a person’s personality. Before any other agency is involved in the contribution to this role, the family will have played one of the most vital roles in shaping up the child. Through punishment of the wrong and rewarding the right, a child understands what is socially required of them and forms the beginning of the learning process. Through the family, one is able to learn about most of the informal knowledge required in a person’s growth. The family acts as a mini-society that helps to transmit information, knowledge, and norms between a person and society. A family teaches a person how to handle issues and act like an adult if left in the position of an adult. It teaches a person about intimacy and social connections that help a person in the growth pattern. The socialization procedure remains a procedure as long as one lives due to the fact that other procedures are also in play. It helps in a person’s development of cultural knowledge and also in the behavioral acceptance of the same. As one grows the family is normally there to correct and guide a person’s behavior and personality. As a child growing up, the family had a big role in my growth and determination of how I approach issues, how I think, the opinions I have towards ideas and generally the person I was to become Furedi (2009).
