Introduction
The use of new technologies in education has changed how people learn, communicate, and work with educational content. New technologies such as online learning platforms or AI tools have made their place in education and cannot be separated from one another. This article examines the effect that new technologies are having on education. It looks, in particular, at how technology has changed teachers, learners, and teaching. This essay will balance the thesis (benefits) and antithesis (challenges) of technology in education to show how new technologies are shaping the future of education.
1 – Thesis
Students learn better with new technologies. It is interactive, interesting, and easy to drive higher engagement levels and effective learning experiences through technological inputs. These new-age technologies enable students to take charge of their learning, allowing for a range of diverse learning styles. Software programs like flexible learning systems, online collaboration platforms, and digital simulations have transformed education allowing students to learn more flexibly. Overall, technology helps learners get equal access to education. Many students with disabilities use tech to learn skills of their choice and face no discrimination.
The emergence of new technologies has significantly contributed to the development that all students learn equally. Students around the world, regardless of their location or financial status, can access tools like Coursera, Khan Academy, and edX’s quality-learning environments. The above tools have changed the scope and trajectory of education (Selwyn, 2016). For example, the Covid pandemic itself gave way to online learning. Students with disabilities, office goers in remote areas, or other people can benefit from this flexibility. Assistive technologies allow people to use computers and smartphones to access educational resources at all times. It provides better education by adding to improve education for disabled students.
Moreover, the introduction of new technologies has made learning more interactive. Virtual reality, augmented reality, and gamification have changed traditional classrooms into places where one can learn with newer and more interactive tools (O’Neil, 2016). For example, using VR technologies, students can be transported to a historical site or a scientific lab, which provides a hands-on learning experience. Likewise, educational games like Minecraft Education Edition let one learn subjects like history, maths, and science through gameplay. Also, apps like Google Docs and Microsoft Teams are making group work and peer-to-peer learning easy. Students can work on projects at the same time from anywhere and learn team spirit and communication skills.
Still, using technology, students can customize their learning experience based on their needs. Adaptive learning platforms use AI to assess student performance and give personalized learning pathways. For instance, the app Duolingo makes the lesson harder as per the student’s progre...
