Describe the economic and political systems of three countries in three different continents
Even in the ever-increasing rate of globalization, people and their cultures in different parts of the world have distinctive differences in their economic and political systems. These differences are multifaceted and they provide a unique identity of the people. Some of the factors that underpin these differences include; geographical location, cultural factors, history, political organization etc. They have also led to different rates of growth and
United States
The political system of the United States is representative democracy rooted in the constitution which was authored by the founding fathers of the nation. There is the legislature which has two houses; house of representatives and the congress. There is the executive which is headed by the president who is elected once every four years and the judiciary. The judiciary is two tiered; the individual states have their own state judiciary arms and the federal judiciary. The supreme court is the highest court in the land.
Economically, the United States is the largest economy. Its biggest trading partner is China. The USs main exports is machinery including computers and software. It also exports minerals including oil, pharmaceuticals and other organic chemicals and foods (mostly processed). It is also a large importer of oil, pharmaceuticals, electronic equipment, vehicles, food etc. The per capita income of the US citizens was $59160 dollars and GDP of $19.39 trillion as of 2017 according to CITATION Wor191 \l 1033 (World Bank, 2019). The US economy has been growing steadily since the last economic crisis in 2008 and it is relatively stable.
China
China is the most populous country in the world with about 1.35 billion people. The country’s culture is largely homogenous owing to the history of the Chinese dynasties that have ruled for millennia. It is currently the second largest economy after the United States and it has been largely been attributed to manufacturing. China has come to be dabbed the world factory because of the number of goods produced in the country mainly for export. Its biggest trading partner is the United States. The per capital income of China was $16760 and a GDP of $12.24 trillion in 2017 CITATION Wor192 \l 1033 (World Bank, 2019). Chinese economy has been the fastest growing in for decades and it has mapped the China as an economic superpower.
Politically, China grappled with political instability for nearly half of the 20th century as it transitioned from the dynasty and monarchial systems of government to its dictatorship which is veiled under weak democratic systems. China is led by a prime minister chosen by the ruling party, the communist party of China. The current Chinese constitution version was adapted in 1982 and it has had several major amendments in accordance to the will of the ruling political party. The constitution has no real power over the political class as the courts do not have the general power of judicial review and cannot invalidate a statute on the grounds that it violates the Constitution. There is a version of legislature which is a lame duck and assembles once per year and acts as a rubber stamp of the executive.
Somalia
Somalia is a largely homogenous country located on the horn of Africa. It has a population of 14.3 million people who are largely ethnic Somalis. Most of the Somalis are Muslims and mainly Sunni Islam. The country has been embroiled in civil war for nearly two decades since 1994 when the then civil government failed. The nature of Somaliland conflict is interclan conflict which escalated insecurity and led to millions fleeing the country in the same period. Today, the Somali government which was formed in 2012 is actively reconstructing its largely informal economy and uniting the people many of whom bear the scars of the 20-year long con...
