Fulfillment centers became an integral component of the e-commerce environment, serving as the nexus between online retailers and their customers. Fulfillment facilities are tasked with storing, packaging, and delivering products to consumers, enabling businesses to fulfill orders and meet customer demands. A reputed specimen of a fulfillment store is Amazon Inc., which operates a massive 175 facilities globally (Geyser, 2023). Amazon utilizes several strategies, such as budgeting and performance analysis, to ensure the success of these centers. Budgeting is crucial for fulfillment center operations as it allows for the effective allocation of resources and informed decision-making vis-à-vis investments and expenditures (Budgeting, n.d.). History of Amazon's Fulfillment Centers
In its nascent operations, Amazon relied profoundly on external fulfillment centers to manage its inventory and shipping requirements. Consequently, Amazon inaugurated its first fulfillment center in Seattle, Washington, in 1997. Over the years, Amazon continued to instate new fulfillment centers across the United States, including the Delaware, Kentucky, and Texas facilities.
