Healing and Grieving after a Traumatic Accident

Research Proposal Instructions:

Mini Proposal:
This mini proposal is supposed to be about healing and grieving after a traumatic accident. I have struggled to find information on this. It can also incorporate grieving and loss of a loved one after a traumatic accident.

Mini Proposal Guidelines

Due Week 12 Day 7

Outcomes for Proposal:

  1. Identify a nursing issue that could be studied (CO-2, 4)
  2. Critique at least five research articles on the nursing issue chosen (CO-6)
  3. Demonstrate the scientific method in the development of a nursing research project (CO-1, 6, 7, 8)

Content:

For the proposal each individual will need to identify a problem/issue in the field of nursing.  Make sure that it is an area that could actually be researched. In week 4, you will need to post your topic and how you may do a study on this topic in the appropriate link. Your instructor and others will provide comments to further refine your topic.

You will then look use the library to find studies (research articles) that have been done on this issue (this is beyond your textbook). It is best if these studies are within the past five years.  You will use the following table to clarify areas from these articles. This is to be posted in the appropriate link in week 8. This table will assist you in writing your literature review for the Mini Proposal

The proposal should include the following areas:

Abstract: A clear overview of the paper contents. No more than 150 words.

Introduction: Clear identification of a nursing problem and the background of the problem hypothesis or research questions identified-be sure they are measurable

Literature review: Reviewing pertinent at least 5 research articles, and summarize.

Sampling methods needed to undertake this particular study-where, how, when and why will you choose the sample. Ethical issues addressed

Methodology: how will the data be collected- interviews, questionnaire, survey, etc. what kind of questions or observation will be included. Not expecting entire document but areas to be included with type of response such as narrative, yes/no, Likert. Must be feasible

Data analysis:  type of potential specific statistical tests to be used for which data. Why?

Conclusion summarizes proposed study and benefits to nursing

This paper should be approximately 8-10 pages excluding the title page and the references. It will need to be in APA format.  No more than 25% can be from sources/references, 75% needs to be your own ideas.

Be sure to look at sample proposal in course to assist in writing this paper.

Abstract
An accident is one of the traumatic events which raises many issues in the nursing field and is classified as the major cause of death globally. The research will address healing from traumatic accidents. Random sampling will be considered for the research to provide an equal chance to the participants without classifying them into any groups. The participants who will be considered for sampling are those who survived accidents and families who lost their loved ones. The data will be collected through structured interviews. Fifty participants will be interviewed two months after they experience trauma accidents. Different accidents will be considered, including burns, road accidents, and high falls. Thematic analysis will be considered and achieved by identifying the key themes from the interview data. The themes will also be considered to understand the major common issues that the patients and families experience from the accidents.
Introduction
Accidents are classified as the major cause of death globally, with different traumatic impacts. A traumatic event is any incident that causes psychological, spiritual, emotional, or physical harm. Patients who experience accidents and have lost their colleagues from the accidents face different mental problems. Therefore, nurses should play a significant role in addressing emerging mental issues from the accidents. However, the major problem that the nurses face while dealing with such patients is understanding the accident's severity. Besides, the patient may not know how to respond to the incidents, which may impact mental and physical health. Complex grief may also accompany the impacts that the accidents promote. The victims may also experience shock, which may lead to psychological distress. Accidents should not be treated like any traumatic event but with long-term effects on the patients. Besides, individuals who may experience accidental events or lose their loved ones may need consistent mental therapy and intervention for healing. Traumatic accidents comprise different health issues, including increased blood pressure, increased heart rate, and other abnormal body mechanisms (Rosenberg et al., 2018). Shock and denial also accompany the traumatic accidents. Therefore, research is necessary to understand the adverse outcome of accidents and the key nursing interventions to boost the healing process of the victims.
Research Questions
* What are the mental health effects of the traumatic accident?
* Why is healing and grieving after a traumatic accident a critical concern among nurses?
* What are the nursing interventions for healing and grieving after a traumatic accident?
Literature Review
The first article examined was written by Jin et al. (2018) and focused on fracture patterns and recovery from accidents. The research design used for the study was a retrospective study to understand the post-issues faced by the patients from the accidents. The population used was 2076 students who had fractures from serious fall accidents. The study analyzed patients who went through surgeries after accidents between 2010 and 2017. Jin et al. (2018) found distinctive aspects and parameters among the patients who went through accident trauma. Although the aim of the study is the causes of craniofacial fractures from accidents, it focused on the recovery issues among the patients (Jin et al., 2018). Jin et al. (2018) found that most accidents are caused by high falls and bone fractures and leave most patients with fractures making a recovery and healing complex. The key recommendations that Jin et al. (2018) provided are the consistent engagement of patients and the need to establish mental therapy for the patients.
The second source reviewed was authored by Rosenberg et al. (2018), who used descriptive research design to understand the psychosocial recovery among patients from traumatic accidents. Rosenberg et al. (2018) focused on burn accidents and used a population of 21 participants to understand the psychosocial recovery from burn accidents. The article addresses the key issues that the burn survivors and their families went through and specific interventions to address the issues. Rosenberg et al. (2018) analyzed the most effective approaches to achieving the psychotherapeutic goals for initiating recoveries. The key findings that Rosenberg et al. (2018) embraced was that individuals who face burn accidents should undergo a thorough psychosocial recovery approach with the help of a professional psychotherapist. Besides, Rosenberg et al. (2018) recommended that psychotherapy be integrated with hypnotherapy. The families of the burn survivors should also go through sleep assessment and intervention and psychosocial support.
The third source reviewed was an article written by Nasirian et al. (2018), which emphasized the key experiences of patients recovering from a physical trauma from traumatic accidents. Nasirian et al. (2018) used a ground theory research design to analyze the patients who underwent serious physical traumas. The population used for the study was 120,000 patients, 2014 admitted due to serious issues and injuries. The key findings that Nasirian et al. (2018) stipulated include the need for social support to allow the smooth recovery of the patients. Nasirian et al. (2018) also found that comprehensive rehabilitation is necessary to restore the psychological and physical symptoms of the patients. Nasirian et al. (2018) recommended that the patients' families should be engaged in follow-up plans to address the common grief issues and enhance their mental health. Therefore, the article comprehensively addressed the key issues and interventions for physical trauma from the accidents.
The fourth source used was written by Ioannou et al. (2018) and focused on the financial and recovery worry of individuals exposed to accidents. Ioannou et al. (2018) identified that individuals recovering from accidents faced critical mental health issues and psychological ...
