Abstract
The plan of this article is to observe the ethnographic examination by finding out how mature students learn. The examination bases on views of students in on of the Inner City University. It focuses on the search for out if the choice of mode of study can have an impact on curricula at the university with that aim of avoiding generalization of delivery methods such as lectures. The principle of the survey is to learn from focus group comprising of six to eight adult students through interview within a period of one year for completion. Analysis of qualitative data collected during the survey will follow the analysis with simple descriptive statistics (Ranjit, 2014). Therefore, ideas presented in this paper explore the research problems along with issues encountered while undertaking the ethnographic on strategies and techniques of embracing learning process among learners. The paper also addresses the manner that choice of mode of study can serve to explore the phenomenon in a context sustainable as a methodology.
Introduction
Schools for mature learners aid in facilitating learning by encouraging the students to learn more efficiently. The learning styles in various schools like Inner City University remain to be a person’s steady approach of retaining, perceiving, along with processing latest data. Different surveyors have exposed that the growing interest in the styles of learning, the connected instructionals ways, and pedagogical training skills. The relevance results from the need to assist learners to develop into the capable and flourishing person (Pam & Lucinda, 2013). However, one sole advance to teaching in learning institutions does not toil for all learners or even for the majority of the learners. There is the need of awareness of educators on several styles of learning among learners and their skills to harmonize the teaching together with methods of education. The idea can assist in developing the rich setting for learning for learners.
Adults have different styles of learning and that they need to modify commands to the characteristics behavior where the mature people wish to study. Learning styles in University describes the individual’s preferred method that aims at the gathering, interpreting, processing, analyzing, and organizing information. Institutions make learners to have the outline of their skills of learning founded on the modalities of sensory involved in compelling information. For instance, various instructional approaches are applicable for educating medical learners such as practicals, lectures, and tutorials (Stanhope & Lancaster, 2014). Appropriate learning styles benefit the learners, as it would aid students in the process of devising the right strategies for learning for attracting their knowledge. Studies completed in the medical field on the styles of learning performed in other nations have led to variations that may be because of the application of various methodologies of training at every level (Schafhuetle et al., 2011). In most cases, not any of the investigations has linked the inclinations of the approaches of instructions with the strategies of learning with learning styles of medical learners. The plan of survey is to increase the knowledge of the forms of learning among medical students by finding out the most preferred instructional methods. There is the correlation of modes with the preferences of learning of learners meaningful in devising strategies for teaching together with learning for humanizing experience of learning among mature learners.
Literature Review
Learning styles
The world of education have for long acknowledges the importance of understanding the different learning styles preferred by students and their roles in attaining academic success. The increased usage of multimedia in teaching leads to provision of chances for presenting many portraying of the matter like images, video, text, audio, along with essentials of interaction. Besides, following the neuroscience research, the outcomes have revealed that significant increases in learning can be customary when the environment set for learning caters for learners’ predominant learning styles. According to Okey (2012), active strategies for learning established by different educational sector that includes role-playing, use of models, simulations, and debates are some of the strategies preferred by adult people learners. The set policies by the schools do not only encourage critical thinking like evaluation, analysis, and interpretation of the data, but they also assist in improving the idea of solving problem and skills of making decisions. Besides, the passive strategy of learning as set by schools such as lectures mostly caters to the auditory learners. The variations in learning skills among mature students of medical schools from various places result because of the foundation of the numerous in the modes of teaching (Tang et al., 2014). The modes are applicable in premedical level as well as experience in clinical activities in every medical curriculum annually.
Strategy for learning
No lone strategy that has been regard to be the best for learning by working efficiently for each student, no matter how well the advance maybe, they range on their effectiveness as per an individual. Several surveys have reported that certain methods of learning among students like problem-based learning remain as favorable ideas. These ideas are convenient compared to traditional strategies like lectures. Weaver (2012) reports that, only little is notorious on whether the learning strategy set by a student tends to affect their preferences for the particular plan. The strategy fails to present ideas for teaching or instructional method. Strategies like engagement in practicals remain to be the most favored methods of learning and education of both males as well as female learners (Josette & Robbert, 2016). The students engaged in practical learning styles prefer to perceive information best through practical sessions that during lectures. In most cases, teaching and learning skills that are not matching may adversely affect the learning part of the medical students. Therefore, tailoring instruction methods to the preferred learning style by learners receives an upper hand for the effectiveness of the school.
Provision of training together with opportunities to the medical educators’ exists in developing an appropriate understanding of the learner’s learning strategy preferences (Haroun, 2011). These choices can cause the greater understanding and deliberation of particular needs for education of each learner who is under their guidance. Therefore, ideas of comparing the strategy of learning of learners’ choices along with instructional requirements assist tutors in applying the best teaching as well as practices for learning (Babcock et al., 2017). The idea of knowing the preferences can help in the provision of personalized interventions for enhancing the learning of mature students in medical school. Therefore, there is a need for further investigations to examine the correlation amid the performances and the styles of learning of students. More studies can help in revealing if different strategies of learning of learners vary as they advance to the clinical stage of the course during their course.
Material together with method
The investigation target focus group comprising of eight medical students enrolled at the Inner City University. The focus group involves both male and female students who voluntarily participating in the study. Separate questionnaires applied to establishes the most modern teaching and methods of learning among students and their preferences about the style of learning. According to Bettany-Saltikov, 2013), one of the surveys aims at obtaining the general demographic data such as name, age, as well as the gender of the learners. The questions also focused on assessing the preferences of students regarding teaching and learning methodologies like practicals, self-study, lectures, and tutorials in the descending order of the preference. Additionally, another questionnaire is applicable in determining the learning techniques preferences of learners (Punch, 2016). The questions discussed among focus group looks at study strategies for each learning style. The idea is essential in helping in formatting styles of teaching, as it is the most admired model suitable to its reliability along with sim...
